Happy Monday Tribies and Happy Birthday week to me π.
Yesterday I participated in a 28km walk with some wonderful women.
I had been sick all week, one of the other women had a major operation 6 weeks prior and was given the all clear to walk just on Friday, and 2 of the women were very active 75 year olds.
It was called the '7 Bridges' walk which started at one end of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, did a massive loop around the Inner West of Sydney and ended back at the starting point.
We set off in the first wave at 7.30am and walked, talked and laughed.
As we crossed the bridges the weather heated up and by the time we crossed the 7th bridge it was midday, the weather was HOT and we were tired.
There was still 8km to go to the finish line but we decided we didn't want to finish it.
Each of us felt proud, content and like we'd maxed out our 'fun' on the walk and wanted to switch it up.
So at a sign that said 'Steep ascent ahead' we stopped, called an Uber and left the course.
We headed into Circular Quay, had a lovely lunch with a beer while looking over the harbour bridge and opera house then headed home.
I caught up with my neighbour (one of the women) today and we both agreed it was the perfect day out.
We had so much fun, achieved so much AND at the same time, didn't meet our expectations.
The point of sharing this story is to remind you to continually ask yourself "What do I want?" and keep answering it.
Give yourself permission to contradict yourself or change your mind.
I've talked a bit on recent calls about contradiction. You're allowed to if you decide to.
If you want to continue a bit deeper with contraction keep reading:
Coincidentally I opened Brene Brown's book 'Atlas of the Heart' today at the page on Paradox.
"While cognitive dissonance pushes us to resolve the tension of conflicting information, paradox challenges us to straddle the tension of two conflicting elements and recognise that they can both be true."
"A paradox is the appearance of contradiction between two related components. Although light and darkness seem to be opposites, you can't have one without the other - the opposing elements of a paradox are inextricably linked. Even though the elements seem contradictory, they actually compliment and inform each other in ways that allow us to discover underlying truths about ourselves and the world".
My favourite part of this section of the book:
"In these challenging moments of dissonance, we need to stay curious and resist choosing comfort over courage. It's brave to invite new information to the table, to sit with it and hear it out. It's also rare these days."
If it wasn't for the growth I've experienced from mindset and emotions work I would have pushed myself to finish the walk at the finish line. I would have done it for others not for myself, so I could 'say' I finished and think I'd influence other peoples thoughts about me.
The work we do here in Fast Mama empowers us to live our lives on our own terms π.
Light up your life.
