Happy Friday my friends,
How are you? How is your practice going?
It's been so wonderful to see so many of you on the calls, in the check ins and watching the replays. And the best part has been reading about the progress so many of you are making, the change from 'all or nothing' to 'better than average'. SO GOOD!
I'm so glad to be home from my holiday and back into our usual rhythym here in Fast Mama this next week. Monday Mindset, 2 x Group Coaching Calls, Wednesday Wins Day and our Friday Weekly Newsletters.
My holiday was a 9 night cruise from Sydney up to Vanuatu and back. It included all you can eat buffet and restaurant as well as deli, pizzaria, burgers and Indian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was also unlimited self serve ice cream machines and as much dessert as you could eat.
I set myself a goal and plan before I left. Eat whatever I want, whenever I want as long as I don't eat past a +4 on the Hunger Scale. I also planned to exercise daily and had the goal of maintaining.
So how did I do?
I was successful! I actually lost a little bit of weight.
What worked best for me was:
- Using the hunger scale
- Thinking about how I'm feeling physically and how I want to feel.
- Making decisions to eat to feel well.
- Checking in with myself and acknowledging that I'm not actually hungry.
- Eating only foods I really LOVED.
- Continued to focus on getting enough protein and veggies each day.
- Enjoyed dessert every single day. And if I didn't LOVE it, I just had a litle bit and left the rest.
I tried to exercise once in the gym but got sea sick. I then tried to do Pilates in my room but also got sea sick. So I stuck to walking and averaged 11k a day. I used the stairs instead of the elevators as much as I could which ended up being a lot. I was on level 2 and the main areas we used were level 5 and 9.
I think the most helpful thing of all was eating to a +4 on the hunger scale. Every time I do this my weight is maintained no matter what I eat. It really is one of the most helpful practices for me.
I'm sharing not to brag (although I am super proud of myself) but to show you how I lived on the cruise. There were so many people overindulging and choosing foods I wouldn't choose. I was certainly not the norm with my behaviour and that was fine by me. I came home feeling fabulous and just needed to continue living life how I enjoy living it (and as you know, that always includes chocolate).
One tool in particular stands out as having trained me to show up how I did: the 'Do I really LOVE this' worksheet. I highly recommend you use this tool at least once a week with any food you think you love. Practicing this worksheet and building your awareness will certainly empower you to make decisions in future. Trust me, you will be surprised by how much you don't actually love some foods your brain has told you (often for years) that you love. You've got this.
